General
In Korean, “Kyo” means enlightenment / wisdom and “Chon” means village. The founder envisioned KyoChon to be a restaurant where our customers can get food that is nourishing for their bodies amidst the hustle and bustle of their daily lives.
KyoChon is a full-service restaurant that cooks every order fresh. We use only chilled, antibiotic- and hormone-free chicken meat delivered fresh daily. We fry exclusively in premium canola oil and use 100% natural, MSG-free imported sauces.
KyoChon was founded in 1991 in Gumi, South Korea. The brand has since grown to over 1,450+ outlets globally — with 1,400 in Korea alone — and 35 outlets in Malaysia.
Flavours & Food
KyoChon’s three signature flavours are Soy Garlic, Red Pepper, and Honey. We also offer Honey Garlic, Real Fried, and Yangnyeom — and new flavours are regularly introduced as our R&D team focuses on developing delicious recipes worthy of a permanent spot on the menu, rather than just limited-time offers. All flavours are available in bone-in and boneless cuts.
Yes. All our sauces are 100% natural and MSG-free, with no artificial additives. Because we use no preservatives, the taste can vary subtly by season — for example, our Red Pepper series is naturally spicier during Korean summers.
We fry exclusively in premium canola oil, scientifically proven to be beneficial for health. We use significantly less batter than most fried chicken restaurants, so the result is crispier and less oily. Our oil is filtered and changed daily — we never use the same oil after frying more than 60 whole chickens in it. Used oil is collected and responsibly disposed of every week by a government-accredited collector.
Yes. All KyoChon sauces are made in a single state-of-the-art, halal-certified factory in Korea — the same factory that supplies all 1,450+ KyoChon stores worldwide. This is why KyoChon tastes the same no matter where you are. We use Korean ingredients throughout: the chillis, ginger, and other components have a distinctly different flavour profile from their Malaysian counterparts, and that difference is what makes KyoChon taste like KyoChon.
Yes, we offer vegetarian options including noodles and salad. We’re actively working to expand our vegetarian range. We previously offered non-meat chicken tenders and burgers but moved away from them — keeping with our commitment to serving only healthy, minimally processed ingredients.
No, we use chickens of the same size as most chicken restaurants. Our chickens are aged between 30 to 35 days old because our experience has told us that this is the best for juicy, tender and succulent meat after frying. We use far less batter than typical fried chicken brands, so pieces may appear smaller — but the result is a crispier, less oily, and more flavourful chicken that lets you taste the meat, not the batter.
No. We use broiler chickens (specially bred chickens raised for their meat), which are grown in sealed-off, air-conditioned modern sheds ensuring they are free from airborne viruses and diseases. Village and free-range chickens are usually leaner and have chewier meat.
Our vegetables are sourced from established and reputable farmers in Malaysia. We triple-wash all salads before serving to ensure they are free from contaminants and pollutants.
Halal
Yes. KyoChon Malaysia has been JAKIM Halal certified since 2024. All our outlets serve only halal food and use halal-certified ingredients. You can view the certification status of each outlet at kyochon.com.my/halal/.
Our commitment to Halal goes beyond certification — it reflects our dedication to food safety and the trust of every customer we serve.
All KyoChon outlets serve only halal food and use halal-certified ingredients. Outlets that have been open for more than 6 months are JAKIM certified. For newer outlets, JAKIM certification requires the outlet to have been operating for at least 3 months before an audit can be scheduled, followed by a further 3-month audit and approval process. So some newer locations may still be pending — not due to any issue with their food or practices, but simply because of the required timeline. Check each outlet’s status at kyochon.com.my/halal/.
Service & Ordering
Every order at KyoChon is prepared fresh to order. We mix the batter, coat the chicken, fry each piece individually, and hand-brush each piece with our signature sauce. This takes 15 to 20 minutes on average (but can be longer during peak times). We never pre-cook or keep chickens in a warmer — quality takes time.
KyoChon is a GrabFood Signature merchant. Order via the GrabFood app or at food.grab.com and search “KyoChon” to find your nearest outlet.
Yes. You can place an advance order for self-pickup via the GrabFood app. We’re also working on offering this directly through our website — stay tuned!
Delivery is available via GrabFood wherever we have an outlet, typically covering up to a 7km radius. We’re planning to expand our footprint by another 100 stores over the next 5 years — so if we’re not near you yet, we will be soon!
