KyoChon Malaysia JAKIM halal certification

Halal Korean Fried Chicken — JAKIM Certified

KyoChon Malaysia is the first international Korean fried chicken chain to be certified halal by JAKIM — and the only KyoChon franchise in the world to hold halal certification. Our central kitchen is JAKIM Halal certified, our outlets hold their own individual halal certificates, and every store nationwide uses the same certified ingredients, serving authentic Korean fried chicken in Soy Garlic, Honey and Red Pepper flavours — free of MSG and preservatives, made with antibiotic- and hormone-free chicken, and cooked fresh to order.

Our JAKIM Halal Certification

KyoChon Malaysia holds Halal certification issued by JAKIM (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia), the federal authority responsible for halal certification in Malaysia. JAKIM certification is among the most rigorous halal standards in the world, covering not only ingredients but the entire preparation process, storage, equipment, hygiene practices and premises. Halal certification is also an assurance of cleanliness — it certifies that food is wholesome, safe and fit for human consumption, in line with the principle of halalan toyyiban (halal and wholesome).

We are proud to be the first international Korean fried chicken chain certified by JAKIM, and the only KyoChon franchise globally with halal certification.

How our certification is structured:

  • Central kitchen — JAKIM Halal certified. Every outlet nationwide is supplied with the same certified ingredients from this kitchen.
  • Individual outlets — each outlet holds its own halal certificate. New outlets must operate for 3 months before becoming eligible for audit, and the audit and approval process can take a further 3 months — so outlets less than 6 months old are typically completing this standard certification pipeline. They use exactly the same ingredients, SOPs and trained teams as every certified outlet from day one.
  • Currently, as at August 2026, six outlets — Kota Kemuning, Ipoh AEON Station 18, Bandar Menjalara, Taman Desa, Miri and Imago Kota Kinabalu — are awaiting their audits under this standard process.

The Same Halal Standard Across All 35 Outlets

Halal compliance at KyoChon Malaysia is not outlet-by-outlet discretion — it is a single nationwide standard. All 35 outlets across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, Penang, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Terengganu, Sarawak and Sabah follow the same certified processes, the same approved supplier panel and the same SOPs. Whether you dine with us in KL or Kuching, the assurance is identical.

What Halal Means in Our Kitchen

Approved suppliers only

Every ingredient — from our chicken to our signature sauces — comes from a vetted, approved supplier panel that meets both our halal requirements and our quality standards. No substitutions, no exceptions.

Syariah-compliant chicken

All our chicken — across our entire supply — is slaughtered in accordance with Syariah laws and regulations, sourced exclusively from approved halal-certified suppliers.

No alcohol, no pork, no lard

Our recipes contain no alcohol, pork or pork derivatives, and no lard. Our signature Korean sauces are produced to halal-compliant formulations.

No MSG, no preservatives, better chicken

Beyond halal, our food is free of MSG and preservatives, and our chicken is antibiotic- and hormone-free.

Cooked fresh, every time — we are not fast food

KyoChon is not a QSR. Every order is cooked fresh when you place it — never pre-fried and left under heat lamps. It takes a little longer, and it is worth it: that is how Korean fried chicken is meant to be served, and it is part of the same philosophy of transparency behind everything we make.

Trained teams

All staff — at every outlet — undergo food safety and halal awareness training as part of onboarding, alongside our hygiene SOPs.

What Our Customers Say

“If you’re into Korean fried chicken, KyoChon deserves a spot on your foodie list. Oh, and worth mentioning, it’s halal, so more people can enjoy it with peace of mind.”

Part of a Global Brand, Certified Locally

KyoChon was founded in South Korea in 1991 and today operates more than 1,400 outlets worldwide. In Malaysia, we have adapted the brand to serve our market with full halal assurance — the same authentic recipes, certified to Malaysian standards. Malaysia’s diverse dining public should never have to choose between authenticity and assurance, and our JAKIM certification means they don’t.

Halal FAQs

Is KyoChon Malaysia halal certified?

Yes. KyoChon Malaysia is JAKIM Halal certified — the first international Korean fried chicken chain to achieve this, and the only KyoChon franchise in the world with halal certification.

Are all KyoChon outlets in Malaysia halal?

All our outlets operate under the same JAKIM-certified central kitchen, ingredients and SOPs. 29 of our 35 outlets hold their own individual halal certificates; as at August 2026, six outlets — Kota Kemuning, Ipoh AEON Station 18, Bandar Menjalara, Taman Desa, Miri and Imago Kota Kinabalu — are currently completing JAKIM’s individual outlet audit process.

Why aren’t your newest outlets certified yet?

JAKIM requires a new outlet to operate for 3 months before it can be audited, and the audit process can take a further 3 months. During this period the outlet already uses the same certified ingredients, central kitchen supply and trained staff as every other KyoChon outlet.

Does KyoChon use any alcohol in its sauces or marinades?

No. Our recipes and signature sauces contain no alcohol and are produced to halal-compliant formulations.

Is the chicken served at KyoChon halal-slaughtered?

Yes. All our chicken, across our entire supply, is slaughtered in accordance with Syariah laws and regulations and sourced exclusively from approved halal-certified suppliers. It is also antibiotic- and hormone-free.

Where can I view a KyoChon outlet’s halal certificate?

Each certified outlet displays its own halal certificate in-store, and all 29 certified outlets can be verified on JAKIM’s official Halal Malaysia portal.

Is KyoChon’s food MSG-free as well as halal?

Yes — free of both MSG and preservatives, and cooked fresh to order at every outlet.
